An Age-Old Race for a New Bike

Electric motorcycles make a lot of sense for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The air is so thin at the top that many internal combustion engines have trouble gulping the air they need. According to RideApart, Zero Motorcycles will compete in the hill climb event with its new motorcycle, the SR/F.

The SR/F should perform well. It has a top speed of 124mph, has a clutchless drive, 485-pound curb weight, and puts out 110hp and 140 lb-ft of torque. Of course, it will take a true motorcyclist to pilot the bike to the top in an impressive and timely manner. Zero Motorcycles has picked just the person to do it, Cory West. West is a well-known professional racer.

West and the SR/F will compete in the heavyweight class of the competition and take on bikes from Aprilia, BMW, and Ducati, among others. The SR/F will compete directly with gasoline-powered bikes, and see if it can’t prove an electric motorcycle’s superiority.

It will be a good opportunity for Zero to show what the motorcycle can really do. So far, we’ve seen a lot of good stats and views of the bike, but Pikes Peak will be a place to really show the bike off. Zero should be able to convince some naysayers out there to the SR/F’s prowess on the road. The event takes place on June 30th.
