    So Much Sandy Awesomeness

The Mexican 1000 Rally is a five-day, 1,347-mile race across the Baja Penninsula. Triumph wanted to have its Scrambler 1200 EX compete in the rally to showcase how good the motorcycle really is at doing off-road stuff. The rider to take on this challenge? Ernie Vigil.

The Mexican 1000 Rally is no cake walk. It’s one of the toughest races out there besides the Dakar Rally. The unforgiving Mexican desert is a test to any off-road machine, let alone a bike that’s designed for both on-road and off-road use. Vigil placed fifth in the race, which is an impressive showing for the Triumph.

We actually covered this race when it happened earlier this year, but now that Triumph has this killer video up about the race and Vigil’s experience racing in it, we thought it was a topic worth revisiting if only to showcase the video. You really get to see what it was like and get a feel for how difficult the race is and how impressive the Scrambler 1200 actually is.

The bike wasn’t really designed for this kind of racing over this kind of terrain, but it handles the tough stuff admirably. It goes to show it’s really not what you ride, it’s how you ride it. You can check out the full video below.
